I originally decided to write just two or three books in the Children of RAMA (previously titled ‘Blades of Khar’) series with maybe one short story introducing the series by showing how the Children of RAMA universe came into existence for the humans at least. But things expanded a bit and will most likely be a series of at least eight books, titles which are somewhat a work in progress for some.
- Children of RAMA – Exodus – book 1 – first pilgrims work in progress pre-edited chapter snippets …
- Children of RAMA – Exodus – book 2 – arrival
- Children of RAMA – Exodus – book 3 – establishment
- Children of RAMA – Democrium – book 1 – beginnings
- Children of RAMA – Democrium – book 2 – ascension
- Children of RAMA – Democrium – book 3 – down fall
- Children of RAMA – Antecedent – book 1 – House of Shooruk
- Children of RAMA – Antecedent – book 2 – of meks and demigods
The main books were beginnings and ascension with first pilgrims being the introductory short.
So a semi brief explanation of the Children of RAMA universe. Originally it was going to be about a child growing in to an adult within a society that has systematically limited it’s citizenry, thus begins a fight to over throw the human part of the galactic government named the Democrium. But as I built out the ‘world’ and built the story arcs, I ended up realizing there were a lot of other intersecting stories, some of which are very simple but cover in galactic years, a millennium. Plus I also saw other characters evolve their own dedicated stories some of which exist before the main Children of RAMA events in the main three Democrium books.
The Democrium is the human part of the western spiral arm of the milky way, known commonly as the Orion Spur. The human migrants got there by way of a series of transport gates. This gate system was developed tens of thousands of years prior to the humans arriving on New Brussels. Most of the millions of humans inhabiting the Orior Spur are of European decent as during the early to mid part of the twenty first century became the more dominant government on earth and as such carried forth their version of how society works. The human aristocracy controls the many workers on industrial and agricultural words by artificially limiting food and personal growth.
The Blades of Khar are originally from the Outer Rim systems and are more commonly known as the ‘Guild’ or slang term ‘Bladers’. They are in essence an assassins guild that work for any government and from a distance help shape societies by manipulating events. They themselves do not take sides and have the view that they are smaller gears in a more complex engine that spans not only generations but eons. Before the dark times of the Outer Rim, technology was developed to allow individuals to have enhances capabilities such as sub atomic manipulation of objects, manipulations of thoughts etc. These skills are artificially induced by use of a nano virus.
The gate system technology just like the nano virus of the guild is a technology that now can only be used and not understood as part of the technology works within the quantum realm. The gates themselves work under a toll like system and run my ancient families of the aristocracy. The human’s also bring forth their own aristocracy from Europe including a covert group hidden from view. The ships carrying the gate technology was launched long ago and the crews are genetically modified, their existence mostly consists of hypersleep for extended periods of sub-light travel followed by a decade of gate deployment.
Part of the guilds social and governmental manipulation revolves around using a race gifted with the ability to sense events of their future decedents. By this we get introduced to members of the guild during the first arrivals of the humans through the gate system in order to start a protection process of a specific family who’s decedent will come to upset the balance of the entire western part of the galaxy, this being overseen by Dictrat Shadra. Under the Dictrat Shadra is the Orion Spur, Perseus Arm Collective, Outer Rim Confederation, Core Industrial Worlds to name a few.
During the Exodus book series, the initial settlers on New Brussels will eventually become the center point for a constructed civil war in order to allow the European government to solidify itself on New Brussels and therefore control human expansion. Due to agents of the EU and UN manipulating the financial institutions of America during the late part of the 20th century and early 21st, the ability of the US to counter events unfolding on New Brussels is financially impossible as the EU becomes the Earths new global power.
Democrium series will start just atfer the first few hundred years of the establishment of humans in the new world, the guild bring some humans into their fold so that they can operate in a clandestine way on human controlled worlds.
We also will see a decedent of the first settlers, part of the aristocracy itself become a member of the guild who will after time become disenfranchised with their ways and join in a resistance against the Democrium and attempt the free the oppressed migrants of the Orion Spur. But this prodigal son may not be who he thinks he is.
The series named Antecedent will be single books covering the early part of the Outer Rim and Perseus Arm, House of Shooruk covers the main character’s closest friend as far as his ancestors, his friend is part of the species that have the ‘foretelling’ abilities and therefore a multitude of generations before the human pilgrims migrated, the guild knew of their impending arrival, this is felt during the early generation as his family and the main character have such an interwoven existence and the events of the future so turbulent a foretelling was written for future generations.
Of meks and demigods – thousands of galactic years (500 standard days rotation) we see revolts of meks (typical robots / droids) and their superior demigod series with highly advanced AI operating systems petitioning for freedom from servitude. Synth’s (artificals that resemble their makers) are eventually banned and now by law require visual markings to show their non-organic nature. These droid either by modification or design are called MekArts.
After the self aware demigod series meks failing to become free decide to recode some of their behavioral inhibitor rules (BIR) in order to free themselves at great risk as half of the procedures fail. The successful ones impose a self exile on a remote outpost at the temple of perpetuity.
Some of these original demigod droids still exist during the Democrium series and while civilian ownership by any species is illegal, the aristocracy still own demigod series meks.
The general story follows these meks through to their exile so we understand who these ‘people’ become in later generations, by design or chance, various demigod series meks end up playing a pivotal in placing our main character where he needs to be.
